Louie Wong Lok I has been the acting director of the Macau Government Information Bureau (GCS) since early this month, according to information updated on the government portal website and announcements published in the Official Gazette (BO) yesterday.
The bureau’s director position has been left vacant since Inês Chan Lou’s appointment as the bureau’s director expired on June 30 when it was not renewed.
Wong has been the bureau’s deputy director since March 1, 2014. The bureau has only one deputy director in its organisational structure.
According to an executive order published in the gazette yesterday, Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai has authorised Wong to perform various duties and functions in his capacity as the Macau Government Information Bureau’s acting director. Wong’s authorised exercise of the various duties and functions took effect retroactively from July 11, according to the order, which was signed by Sam that day.
The bureau is directly overseen by the chief executive.
According to information displayed on the government portal website yesterday, Wong is now the bureau’s acting director.
According to previous announcements published in the gazette, Wong, a former journalist, joined the Macau Government Information Bureau in 1996 when Macau was still under temporary Portuguese administration. He became a division chief in the bureau in 2000, before he was promoted to the head of the bureau’s Information Department in 2011.
