The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) will hold its regular “Book for Book” swap event this weekend at Rotunda de Carlos da Maia (commonly known as “Three Lamps”), inviting the public to exchange used books and aiming to promote reading habits in the community through a convenient and accessible platform, according to an IC statement on Tuesday.
The event will take place as part of an ongoing initiative to encourage community-wide reading, scheduled in odd numbered months from May to November, being set up at the “Three Lamps” roundabout on Saturday and Sunday, from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., the statement noted.
Participants may take up to 20 books that meet the event’s criteria and exchange them for the same number of different titles. The process follows a one-in-one-out system, where books are first verified on-site before the swap. Ineligible materials include outdated textbooks, damaged books, pirated editions, and other restricted categories to maintain quality and usability, the statement said.
To enrich the event, exhibition panels from the Macau Public Library will also be featured at the venue, showcasing the range of services and resources available to the public. The statement encouraged residents to take part in the meaningful exchange, turning unused books into new reading opportunities. By fostering accessible and sustainable literary engagement, the activity helps cultivate a stronger reading culture and a shared appreciation for literature within the community, according to the statement.
