Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Alexis Tam Chon Weng yesterday urged pre-sale buyers of the ill-fated Pearl Horizon project who are suffering from stress due to their difficult situation to seek emotional support from private social organisations or the social service centres run by the Social Welfare Bureau (IAS).
Tam made the remarks yesterday when replying to an oral interpellation by directly-elected lawmaker Mak Soi Kun during a plenary session of the legislature.
The residential project has been mothballed since the government decided in 2015 to axe the Pearl Horizon project site’s provisional land concession that expired in December 2015. The government has repeatedly said that the issue must be solved in strict adherence with the Land Law. The developer, Hong Kong-based Polytec, has filed a lawsuit against the government to challenge its decision to reclaim the construction site.
