Some 37.6 percent of Macau’s newly registered motor vehicles in the first half of this year were electric ones, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced yesterday.
A DSEC statement yesterday noted that the proportion of newly registered electric vehicles (EVs) in relation to all newly registered motor vehicles in the first six months of this year represented an increase of 7.1 percentage points from the 30.5 percent in the same period of last year.
According to the statement, the number of newly registered motor vehicles dropped by 0.7 percent year on year to 5,901 in the first half of this year, with 2,218 of them being electric.
Last month, according to the statement, 45.6 percent of newly registered motor vehicles were electric.
In the first half of this year, the statement said, the number of traffic accidents fell by 4.4 percent year on year to 7,331, resulting in 2,620 injuries.
Last month, 1,262 traffic accidents were recorded, up 0.4 percent year on year, leading to 461 injuries.
At the end last month, the statement said, the total number of licensed motor vehicles was 253,089, an increase of 1.0 percent year on year.
According to official statistics, Macau’s road length was 497.1 kilometres at the end of last month.
In the first half of this year, the statement said, cross-border vehicular traffic rose by 23.2 percent year on year to 5,302,937 trips.
The statement also said that at the end of the first half of this year, there were 79,023 fixed-line telephone subscribers, down 6.6 percent year on year, while the number of mobile phone subscribers increased by 4.5 percent year on year to 1,482,929.
