Celebration activities organised by the local government were held on Friday in Macau marking the 100-day countdown to the 15th National Games, including a walk from the Ruins of St Paul’s to Largo do Senado, where Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai said in a speech before the start of the walk that the local government’s preparations for the competitions to be held in Macau are underway in an orderly manner.
The walk started at 5 p.m. on Friday, during which Sam and other participants of the event walked to Largo do Senado, the city’s main square via S. Domingos Church.
The 15th National Games, 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the 9th National Special Olympic Games will be jointly hosted by Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau in November and December.
In his speech before the start of the walk, Sam said that the National Games, as the most important sporting event in the nation, serve as an important platform to showcase China’s comprehensive strength and promote sports exchange and cooperation across the nation.
Sam underlined that the Macau government attaches great importance to the preparations for the 15th National Games. Since the State Council approved in 2021 the joint hosting of the 15th National Games in 2025 by Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau, Sam said, the Macau government has been intensively carrying out various preparatory tasks. Under the coordination and guidance of the General Administration of Sport, and in close collaboration with Guangdong Province and Hong Kong through various liaison mechanisms, the Macau government has been jointly advancing the preparations with its Guangdong and Hong Kong counterparts, aiming to write a new chapter in the sports development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA).
Moreover, in addition to the walk from the Ruins of St Paul’s, the local preparatory office for the 15th National Games also held a carnival in Iao Hon Market Park on Friday night marking the 100-day countdown, where Pun Weng Kun, who heads the local preparatory office, told reporters that the office will announce details later this month about ticket sales for Macau-hosted events of the 15th National Games.
Meanwhile, the local preparatory office also held a ceremony on Friday marking the official opening of Macau’s first official franchised products shop for the 15th National Games, 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the 9th National Special Olympic Games.
The shop, located at Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion, opened on Wednesday last week on a trial basis.
The shop opens between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. daily.
