Macau-born illustrator Justin Ung invites audiences on a cultural journey through colour with his solo exhibition at Creative Macau (CCI), according to the official CCI website.
Ung, also known by his pen name “Meow the Sardines”, is a Macau-based illustrator with a master’s in History and Heritage Studies. The website highlighted Ung’s contribution to Fantasia magazine and has authored several picture books, bringing his expertise in cultural storytelling to the forefront of this exhibition.
The exhibition, entitled “Walking Colours: Architectural Hue Archives”, inaugurated yesterday, featuring a series of illustrations that connect the language of architecture with colour, where Ung noted that it is not just a visual journey through architecture, but as well as “chromatic decoding of cultures”, as well as inviting exhibitiongoers to stroll through iconic structures of Macau and various World Heritage cities, the website said.
The website said that through “Walking Colours”, exhibitiongoers are encouraged to reflect on the emotional layers embedded in architectural colours and the universal stories they tell.
As stated in the website, the exhibition draws connections from “the solemn vows of the Temple of Heaven’s azure glaze in Beijing”* to “the vibrant pulsation of casino neon lights,” highlighting how every hue carries the memory and meaning of a place.
The exhibits for “Walking Colours” are on display at CREATIVE MACAU on the ground floor of the Cultural Centre (CCM) until August 23, with free admission from Monday to Saturday, 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.
