Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Cheong Un Hong announced at a regular press conference yesterday that a local man fell for a compensated dating scam.
On Wednesday at 12 p.m., a local man met an unidentified woman through social platform X (formerly Twitter), and on her behest later switched to Telegram to continue their conversation. During their chats, he learnt that she allegedly offered sexual services. After negotiating the “service fee,” the scammer insisted on receiving a deposit before meeting to provide the services.
The victim, according to Cheong, convinced by the scammer, purchased eight game gift cards totalling 3,000 patacas and sent the redemption details to the fraudster. After this “service fee” payment, the scammer demanded an additional 30,000 patacas as “security,” threatening to send someone to “kill” the victim if he didn’t pay.
Fearing continued extortion the victim reported the case to the Judicial Police, seeking legal action against the perpetrator, Cheong said.
