The WTT [World Table Tennis] Champions Macao 2025 presented by Galaxy Entertainment Group will be held from September 9 to 14, with tickets to go on sale on Friday, organisers announced during a press conference yesterday.
Since its debut in Macau in 2020, the event will be held in the city for the sixth time.
As last year, the 2025 edition of the event will be jointly organised by the Macau Sports Bureau (ID), World Table Tennis (WTT), and Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG), with the Macau Table Tennis General Association to assist in the event’s organisation.
Since its debut in 2020, the event has been “presented” by GEG every year, but the gaming operator has only been one of the organisers since 2023.
As last year, the event will be held at the Macau East Asian Games Dome in Cotai. The 2025 edition of the event will be held for six days between September 9 to 14, one day fewer than in 2024.
As last year, a total of 64 competitors, comprising 32 male and 32 female players from around the globe, will vie for prizes in the upcoming event.
Delivering a speech during yesterday’s press conference, held at the Galaxy International Convention Centre (GICC) in Cotai, ID President Luís Gomes said that the various WTT international tournaments held in Macau over the past few years, alongside the ITTF [International Table Tennis Federation] Men’s and Women’s World Cup Macao events held last year and earlier this year, have enjoyed great popularity and sparked a table tennis craze among local residents and visitors, while also showcasing the capability of Macau as a host city for international sporting events.
Gomes said that the synergy of large-scale sporting events held in Macau has driven the development of the city’s sports industry, sports tourism and other related sectors.
Gomes noted that this year’s tournament will feature the world’s top 32 male and 32 female players from around the world, including Lin Shidong, Wang Chuqin, Sun Yingsha, and Wang Manyu from the Chinese National Team, as well as Hugo Calderano from Brazil, champion of the ITTF Men’s World Cup Macao 2025, and Macau player Zhu Yuling, the women’s singles champion of the WTT United States Smash 2025.
According to the ITTF website, Lin, Wang Chuqin, and Calderano are currently ranked number one, two and three in the world in the men’s singles, while Sun, Wang Manyu, and Zhu are ranked number one, two and seven in the world in the women’s singles.
Also delivering a speech, GEG Corporate Affairs Director Buddy Lam Chi Seng noted that the event, which debuted in Macau in 2020, will be held in the city for the sixth time. Lam said that GEG has been “deeply involved” in the event’s development since it started, serving as one of the organisers since 2023, with this year marking the third consecutive year to retain the role.
Lam also underlined that as one of the WTT Champions Macao’s organisers, GEG will, as previously, host various extended activities during the upcoming tournament, allowing visitors and residents alike to enjoy the matches while experiencing the unique charm of Macau’s integration of tourism and sport.
According to the match schedule listed in an ID statement yesterday, the round of 32 matches will be played on September 9, 10 and 11, while the round of 16 matches will be played on September 11 and 12. The quarter finals will take place on September 13, while the semi-finals and the finals will be played on September 14.
Tickets for the event are priced between 210 patacas and 1,300 patacas. More details about the upcoming tournament and its ticketing information can be checked on: https://www.gov.mo/en/news/365956/
