A statement issued by a spokesperson for the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) in the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) last night expressed “resolute opposition to US interference in Macau affairs.”
This is the statement’s English translation arranged by the Post:
“In response to the so-called ‘2024 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices’ released by the US Department of State, which disregards facts, makes unwarranted accusations, and smears Macau’s human rights situation while openly interfering in Macau affairs and China’s internal matters, the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Macau expresses strong dissatisfaction and resolute opposition!
Since Macau’s return to the motherland, the practice of “One Country, Two Systems” has achieved globally recognised great successes. The democratic political system has been improved, economic development has achieved historic leaps, and freedoms of speech and the press, as well as labour rights, have been fully guaranteed in accordance with the law. Society has remained harmonious and stable, residents live and work in contentment, and the well-being of the people has continuously reached new heights.
Safeguarding national security is the most important and fundamental prerequisite for a country’s survival and development. The effective implementation of Macau’s “Law on Safeguarding National Security” will undoubtedly provide stronger guarantees for the steady and long-term success of the ‘One Country, Two Systems” practice and Macau’s enduring prosperity and stability!
We once again urge the US side to respect objective facts, immediately stop slandering Macau’s human rights situation, and immediately cease interfering in Macau affairs and China’s internal matters!”
