The Macau Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) issued a Yellow hot weather alert yesterday that will continue today, with members of the public urged to pay attention to the continuation of the current heat wave.
According to the alert issued by the local observatory yesterday afternoon, the maximum temperature is forecast to reach 33 degrees Celsius or above today. The bureau has advised the public to be vigilant against heatstroke and to ensure they drink water regularly to stay hydrated.
The alert noted several essential precautions for the public to follow. These include wearing loose, thin, and light-coloured clothing when outdoors and seeking immediate rest in a shaded area if feeling unwell. It also strongly advises avoiding prolonged exposure to sunlight and the harmful effects of UV radiation. In a critical safety reminder, the public are warned not to remain inside vehicles parked outdoors for extended periods.
Members of the public are advised to consult the Social Welfare Bureau’s (IAS) services if necessary.
The Yellow hot weather alert was updated at 5:10 p.m. yesterday and remains in effect today. Members of the public are encouraged to stay updated on any further announcements from the local observatory, according to the website.
The observatory has a two-level hot weather warning system: Yellow means “very hot”, while Orange warns of “extremely hot” weather.
