The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) joined the recent Indonesian Travel Agents Association (ASTINDO) Travel Fair 2025 in Jakarta, one of the largest travel fairs in Indonesia.
Indonesia is one of Macau’s 10 largest international visitor markets.
According to yesterday’s statement, MGTO, along with Macau’s travel trade delegation, were invited to the biannual fair held from August 28-31. A 36-square-metre Macao Pavilion that featured games, installations and a model of MGTO mascot MAK MAK, was set up, while culinary delights, events and leisure experiences, among others, were on offer for fairgoers and also showcased Macau’s “tourism+”, the statement said.
The statement added that MGTO and the tourism enterprises also presented the latest tourism products and “connected with their Indonesian counterparts for closer cooperation”.
The statement noted that the invitation to the fair capitalised on the direct air connectivity between Macau and Jakarta “to brand Macau as an international destination and boost visitors from Indonesia and Southeast Asia”.
The statement again highlighted that Macau was ranked as one of the world’s “Muslim-friendly destinations” this year on the Global Muslim Travel Index 2025 (GMTI) published by CrescentRating and Mastercard, being placed 16th overall as a Muslim-friendly destination (among non-Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) destinations).
Promotional initiatives targeting Indonesia will continue to be rolled out this year. The statement added that a “mega” Macau travel roadshow is slated to take place in Indonesia in October.
According to Macau’s Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC), 14,884 Indonesians visited Macau in July,
4,000 of whom checked into local hotels.
