A woman from the mainland was arrested on Thursday for stealing a pair of shoes from a restaurant, Public Security Police (PSP) spokeswoman Kong Chi Ian said during a regular press conference yesterday.
Kong identified the suspect as a female in her forties, surnamed Mo, who told the police that she’s jobless.
According to Kong, the police received a report on Wednesday from a woman who said that she had placed a paper bag containing a pair of shoes on the floor while dining at a restaurant in Travessa dos Algibebes (高尾巷). About an hour later, she discovered that the paper bag had vanished. Suspecting someone had stolen the shoes, valued at 5,300 patacas, she immediately reported the case to the police.
Using citywide CCTV surveillance and the restaurant’s CCTV footage, the police identified Mo as the suspect and apprehended her on Rua da Caldeira (白眼塘橫街) on Thursday.
Under questioning, Mo admitted to stealing the shoes. The police recovered the pair of shoes from Mo’s hotel guestroom.
Mo has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a theft charge.
