The grassroots New Macau Association (NMA) petitioned the Commission of Audit (CA) yesterday, urging the body to follow up on its 2015 audit report about the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEJ) and Education Development Fund’s (FDE) “slack” supervision of the use of subsidies in privately-owned primary and secondary schools.

DSEJ Director Leong Lai chairs the Education Development Fund’s administrative council.

According to previous media reports, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Alexis Tam Chon Weng told a plenary session of the Legislative Assembly (AL) late last month that the subsidies of six private schools had been suspended since their accounts related to subsidised programmes had been turned down by the government.
