Secretary for Security Wong Sio Chak yesterday implicitly criticised a Judiciary Police (PJ) officer who was filmed abusing his dog earlier this year for taking legal action against local animal protection group Anima’s president for sharing the video on social media, according to a statement by the Secretariat for Security.

The officer was filmed kicking, beating and throwing the dog around on the verandah of a residential building in Taipa in January 17. The video went viral on various social media such as Facebook.

The footage was also shown by local and Hong Kong news media including local government-owned broadcaster TDM. According to media reports at that time, the dog was “punished” for messing around with its master’s training shoes.
