The Macau Association for Internet Research (MAIR) hosted a workshop yesterday to promote the use of QR codes in tracking and identifying counterfeit products.

Speaking to reporters before the workshop at the Macau Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) in Nape, MAIR President Angus Cheong Weng Hin urged local businesses to make use of the technology.

Cheong, who chairs the Asia-Pacific Internet Research Alliance (APIRA), said that by attaching QR codes to products, customers can obtain information about the source of the products by scanning the codes with their mobiles, while manufacturers can collect data about when and where their products have been scanned.
