Macau logs record 4.2 million visitors in August

     Macau’s number of visitor arrivals reached a monthly record 4.219 million in August, a year-on-year growth of 15.5 percent, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced today. 

According to a DSEC statement, same-day visitors (2.553 million) and overnight visitors (1.665 million) rose by 25.1 per cent and 3.4 percent year-on-year, respectively.

The average length of stay of visitors remained steady year-on-year at 1.1 days; overnight visitors (2.3 days) remained unchanged in August. Customarily, July and August are schools' summer holidays in the Chinese mainland, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), and China's Taiwan region. 

The daily average of visitor arrivals stood at 136,097 last month.

Visitor arrivals from the Chinese mainland rose by 18.4 per cent to 3.257 million in August, accounting for 77.2 per cent of all visitor arrivals.

Visitors from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (681,740) and Taiwan (89,057) increased by 2.8 percent and 21.0 percent year-on-year, respectively.

Foreign visitor arrivals totalled 190,363 in August, up by 17.3 per cent year-on-year.

Filipinos (38,389) and South Koreans (35,177) continued to be Macau’s main foreign visitor segments last month.

In the first eight months of this year, Macau recorded 26.895 million visitor arrivals, up by 15.0 percent year-on-year.

The government has stated that it expects about 39 million visitor arrivals this year.

Macau’s annual visitor arrival record was achieved in pre-COVID-19 2019, at 39.406 million.
