Macau recorded this year’s 4th locally transmitted case of chikungunya fever, as well as the18th imported case of chikungunya and 16th imported case of dengue fever on Tuesday, the Health Bureau (SSM) announced in a statement on Wednesday.
4th local case of chikungunya fever
According to the statement, the 4th locally transmitted case of chikungunya case was confirmed on Tuesday. The patient is a 54-year-old Vietnamese non-resident worker (NRW) who lives at 2-4 Estrada de Hac Sá (路環黑沙馬路) in Coloane, and works in Block 8 and 9 of One Oasis. She did not have a recent travel history.
From September 10 to Monday this week, her daily routine involved moving only between her workplace and home, the statement said. She suspected she was bitten by a mosquito while at work and developed symptoms including fever, joint pain and a rash on Monday, then she sought medical treatment at the private Kiang Wu Hospital.
The statement noted that a blood test confirmed that she was infected with chikungunya fever.
18th imported case of chikungunya fever
Meanwhile, the 18th imported chikungunya case was recorded on Tuesday,
The statement noted that the patient is a male local resident who lives in Block 2 of Nam Ou Garden (南澳花園) on Praceta de Venceslau de Morais (慕拉士前地).
The patient visited Jiangmen City from September 18-20 and developed symptoms such as fever and joint pain on Monday. He went to the public Conde de S. Januário Hospital Centre’s (CHCSJ) Island Emergency Station at the Macau Union Hospital in Cotai for treatment on Tuesday, the statement said.
Blood tests confirmed that he was infected with chikungunya fever.
16th imported case of dengue fever
Moreover, Macau recorded its 16th imported case of dengue fever at the same time.
According to the statement, the patient is a female local resident who lives in Block 4 of Alameda da Tranquilidade Building (永寧廣場) on Rua Direita do Hipódromo (黑沙環中心街), who visited Zhongshan City from September 8 to 14 and developed symptoms such as fever and joint pain on September 19.
The statement noted that she sought medical treatment at the public Conde de S. Januário Hospital Centre (CHCSJ) on Monday.
A blood test yesterday confirmed that she was infected with dengue fever.
The three patients were in a stable condition at the time of Wednesday’s statement, which said that their cohabitants showed no signs of discomfort at that time.
The statement added that in response to the three cases, the bureau has launched special mosquito eradication operations in the vicinities of their respective homes and workplaces as a precautionary measure.
