Sam vows locals will ‘tell China’s stories well’
Two documentary series on President Xi Jinping, namely “Xi Jinping’s Cultural Story” and “Xi Jinping’s Economic Thought Series Lectures”, premiered in Macau yesterday, marked by a ceremony hosted by the local government, where Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai said in a speech that the debut of the two documentary series has created an opportunity to draw the attention of Macau compatriots and people at home and abroad to Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, as well as encouraging them to understand his thought and put it into practice.
Sam said he expects the two documentary series to encourage local people to “tell China’s stories well” to the global community, promote international exchanges, and make more friends across the world.
Held at the Services Platform Complex for Commercial and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (aka Forum Macao Complex), yesterday’s ceremony, in addition to Sam, was attended by dignitaries such as Shen Haixiong, vice-minister of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and president and editor-in-chief of China Media Group (CMG), as well as Macau-based Central People’s Government Liaison Office Director Zheng Xincong, Foreign Ministry Commissioner Liu Xianfa and Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Macau Garrison Deputy Commander Dai Jinsong, as well as Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Wallis O Lam.
The two documentary series was produced by China Media Group (CMG). It was first broadcast on China Central Television (CCTV) channels.
In his speech, Sam noted that since the 18th Communist Party of China (CPC) National Congress, the Party, under the scientific guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, has adopted a series of strategic measures, advanced revolutionary practices, and made a series of breakthrough achievements, representing historic victories of the Chinese nation as well as historic victories that will have profound significance for the world.
The chief executive noted that a series of new concepts, thoughts, and strategies for state governance, encompassing economic and cultural thoughts, put forward by Xi, collectively constitute Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, representing a part of the nation’s precious spiritual wealth as well as a theoretical innovation of global significance.
Sam said that documentary series “Xi Jinping’s Cultural Story” systematically elucidates the essence of Xi Jinping Thought on Culture and the profound cultural foundations that it contains, vividly depicting Xi’s commitment to the inheritance and development of culture, while “Xi Jinping’s Economic Thought Series Lectures” is the first TV documentary series to systematically present Xi Jinping Thought on Economy, meticulously sorting out Xi’s important expositions of his economic thoughts as well as the historic transformations and achievements made under his guidance in the nation’s economic development in the new era.
Sam said that the two documentary series seamlessly integrate theoretical study with media publicity, helping the public gain a more comprehensive, accurate, and in-depth understanding of Xi’s economic and cultural thoughts.
The chief executive noted that Xi expects Macau to become an important bridge for the nation’s high-level opening up and an important window of exchanges between Chinese and Western civilisations, adding that the premiere of the two documentary series highly aligns with the city’s unique strengths as a hub where Chinese and Western cultures merge and which connects China to the rest of the world.
“Xi Jinping’s Cultural Story” is a 10-episode documentary series, with each episode lasting about eight minutes on average, but the version broadcast in Macau, according to a statement by the Macau Government Information Bureau (GCS) yesterday, is a single episode lasting 28 minutes, which was broadcast on Channel 91 of public broadcaster TDM last night. The 28-minute single episode will be broadcast again on Macau Cable TV on October 13, according to the statement.
“Xi Jinping’s Economic Thought Series Lectures” is a 14-episode large-scale documentary series, with each episode lasting about 45 minutes.
Starting from yesterday, according to the GCS statement, the 14 episodes will be broadcast on TDM’s Channel 95 every Sunday and Tuesday, until November 9.
