The private iRad Hospital was inaugurated at Studio City yesterday, marking the launch of Macau’s first and only integrated resort hospital with MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) and CT (Computed Tomography) scanning facilities, according to a statement by Melco Resorts & Entertainment.
iRad is Hong Kong’s largest MRI diagnostic services provider, having been a trusted leader in diagnostic radiology across the region since 2006, the statement noted.
The statement said that the hospital offers a range of advanced medical imaging including MRI, CT scans, mammograms, ultrasound, and X-rays. It has a team of over 140 professionals and support staff.
Melco Resorts & Entertainment Chairman & CEO Lawrence Ho Yau-lung was quoted by the statement as saying: “By launching the world’s first and Macau’s only hospital with MRI & CT facilities within an integrated resort, we strive to contribute to the advancement of medical tourism in Macau. This project aligns with the SAR government’s ‘1+4’ [appropriate] economic diversification strategy*, and we are thankful for the government’s support and guidance throughout the development process.”
iRad Honorary Chairman Dennis Tam (譚志偉) was quoted by the statement as saying: “With its large and growing tourism sector, projected to welcome 38–39 million visitors annually, Macau offers an unparalleled opportunity to become the leading regional medical tourism destination.”
*Appropriately diversified development refers to the framework of the government’s “1+4” appropriate economic diversification model, which aims to consolidate and diversify the development of the city’s tourism and leisure industry (1) while putting special emphasis on promoting the development of four diversified industries, i.e., the four emerging areas of a) big health, b) modern finance, c) high-tech, and d) MICE as well as culture and sports. – Post
