The Legislative Assembly Electoral Affairs Committee (CAEAL) will set up 36 polling stations for the upcoming direct legislative elections, six more than four years ago, Tong Hio Fong, who heads the committee, said yesterday, adding that the number of locations for election campaign hoardings will be increased from 80 to 115.

The direct and indirect legislative elections will take place on September 17. While 14 lawmakers will be directly elected by popular vote, 12 legislators will be indirectly elected by representatives of associations and other bodies.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a regular meeting of the committee at the Public Administration Building in Rua do Campo, Tong, a judge by profession, said his committee had reached a preliminary decision to set up 36 polling stations in 35 venues for the direct elections, as well as five polling stations in a single venue on the Macau Polytechnic Institute (IPM) campus for the indirect elections.
