Brazilian singer Vanessa da Mata is set to perform a concert with the Macao Chinese Orchestra next month, according to a statement from the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) earlier this week.
The performance is scheduled for November 15 at the Macau Cultural Centre’s (CCM) Grand Auditorium and is part of the seventh “Encounter in Macao – Arts and Cultural Festival between China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries”.
According to the statement, Vanessa da Mata is known for works that merge styles including Brazilian pop music, R&B*, samba, and reggae. Her song “Boa Sorte/Good Luck” was highlighted in the statement as being an international hit. The concert will blend her South American style with the orchestra’s Chinese instrumentation.
The Macao Chinese Orchestra will be led by its music director and principal conductor Zhang Lie. The statement said that the vocalist’s songs have been specially rearranged for Chinese musical instruments for the event.
Tickets for the upcoming performance are priced at 400 patacas, 300 patacas, and 200 patacas. A 50 percent discount is available for holders of a Macau ID card and other specified concession cards, the statement said. Further promotional discounts are also in place, the statement added.
The festival is organised by the bureau with support from several other government entities and local organisations.
*R&B, which stands for Rhythm & Blues, is a genre of popular music that combines elements of jazz, gospel, and blues. At its core, it is soulful, vocal-driven music that emphasises melody, emotion, and, as the name implies, strong rhythmic grooves. – DeepSeek
