The Institute of European Studies of Macau (IEEM) will host the “21st IEEM Intellectual Property Seminar” at Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau on Tuesday.

The English-language event is a programme in the institute’s annual Intellectual Property Law events, held in conjunction with the University of Maastricht, and will tackle Intellectual Property and the Circular Economy*.

According to a recent IEEM statement, the seminar will invite scholars from the Chinese mainland, Macau and Hong Kong, as well as Australia, Germany, the Netherlands and South Korea. It will address the “potential clashes between the RRR (repair, reuse and recycle) economic model and intellectual property rights, while a circular economy with the declared goal of RRR of goods serves as one of the sustainable economic models of consumption goods”.

The following day, the statement said that the Professional IP Update session will be held in conjunction with the Hong Kong Intellectual Property Department on its premises in Wanchai.

“The Annual Hong Kong IP Update is meant to offer an overview over the latest IP developments in Asia and Europe”, the statement said, adding that all speakers in the IEEM IP Seminar will attend this session.

*A circular economy is an economic system aimed at minimising waste and making the most of resources. Instead of the traditional “take, make, dispose” model, where products are used and then thrown away, a circular economy focuses on “Reuse”, “Repair” and “Recycle”, with the goal being to keep resources in use for as long as possible to reduce waste and environmental impact, promoting sustainability. – Source: Poe
