Britain’s Davey Todd, astride a BMW M1000RR, won the 57th Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix this morning on the bendy Guia Circuit, clocking a time of 29:07.289.
Todd, on his fifth visit to the Guia Circuit, was the clear favourite, finishing the 12-lap race 10.021 seconds ahead of fellow Briton Peter Hickman, also on a BMW M1000RR. Both raced for the Zeeco BMW Motorrad team. Hickman competed in the Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix for the 9th time, winning it in 2016, 2018, and 2023.
Finland’s Erno Kostamo, also riding a BMW M1000RR but for the Racing for Inclusion by RVS team, came in third, 14.685 seconds behind Todd, among the 17 racers who classified in the 6.2 km race. Three failed to qualify. Kostamo, who won the race in 2019, was on his fifth visit to the Guia Circuit.
This morning, the riders' motorcycle manufacturers featured Germany's BMW and Japan's Honda, Suzuki, and Yamaha.
In yesterday’s qualifying race, Todd set a new Macau Motorcycle Race lap record at 2:23.413.
Last year, rain and fog affected the Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix, with water flooding parts of the Guia Circuit. Therefore, racing officials cancelled the Motorcycle Grand Prix, and as per Macau's racing regulations, a result was called from the last completed session, which resulted in Todd taking his first Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix win ahead of Kostamo and Hickman.
Today’s weather was dry, sunny, and warm.
Todd, born in England in September 1995, won this year’s Superbike Isle of Man TT race. He began his motorcycle racing career in 2016.
The Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix is one of the highlights of the 72nd Macau Grand Prix, which concludes tomorrow with the 10-lap Macau Formula 4 Race, the 10-lap Macau Guia Race-Kumho FIA TCR World Tour Event of Macau - Race 2, the 16-lap Macau GT Cup FIA GT World Cup, and the 15-lap Macau Grand Prix-FIA FR World Cup.
