The 133-year-old Tung Sin Tong Charitable Society hosted a press conference yesterday about its upcoming “Annual Fund Raising Campaign” starting on Thursday during which it revealed the number of users of its primary care facilities last year.

According to Tung Sin Tong (TST) Vice President Vong Chiok Va, the number of consultations provided by the five clinics run by the charity reached 378,844 consultations last year

According to 2024 official health data, Macau’s 733 primary health care establishments, comprising public health centres and private clinics provided 3.9 million consultations, a year-on-year increase of 3.6 percent, last year, of which consultations at private clinics (3.01 million) and government health care establishments (913,000) rose by 3.3 percent and 4.6 percent respectively.

Based on the charity’s figures released yesterday. Tung Sin Tong’s five clinics provided 10.38 percent of all primary health care services last year.

The press conference was held at the Federal Restaurant in Zape.

According to Tung Sin Tong President José Chui Sai Peng, the campaign is raising funds for the coming year by visiting various districts across Macau.

This year, according to Chui, several charitable initiatives have been launched, such as a lucky draw to win vouchers and instant discounts for donations made via Bank of China (BOC) Mobile Banking; a vegetable soup ingredient package, with six patacas donated from each sale; a charity stall at the current Food Festival; and the full donation of craftsmanship fees from jewellery purchased from Seng Fong Jewellery shops.

Chui also said that the about month-long campaign’s participating pharmacies will be offering consumption events – BOC Mobile Banking users may claim one daily 10 pataca discount voucher by scanning the designated QR code at the pharmacies run by Tung Sin Tong.

Chui underlined that the campaign aims to gather the community’s goodwill, carry forward the century-old spirit of shared benevolence and continuously improve various free charitable services.

Tung Sin Tong (同善堂) was set up in 1892. Its traditional Chinese name means “Mutual Benevolence Hall”.

Fellow Tung Sin Tong board member-cum-auditor Iong Weng Ian announced the financial status of Tung Sin Tong’s charitable work for last year. Iong said that its receipts totalled around 169 million patacas, while expenditures amounted to over 168 million patacas.

According to Iong, these funds were primarily allocated to provide free medical services and medicines, childcare, elderly care and other social support services, as well as to cover administrative costs.

Iong said that the remaining balance was transferred to the charity’s financial reserves, earmarked for specific purposes such as the repair and reconstruction of old and dilapidated buildings.
