The “2025 UIM Macao Grand Prix MotoSurf World Championship” kicks off at Hac Sa Beach in Coloane today, launching the second consecutive Grand Finale hosted by Macau.
The event is co-organised by Melco Resorts & Entertainment and the Macau MotoSurf Association (MMSA) under the sanction of the Monaco-based Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM). This year’s edition introduces a new Coastal Market along the beachside promenade, featuring local food, workshops and a sand sculpture performance to enhance the “tourism + sports” synergy, according to a Melco statement.
Yesterday’s opening ceremony was attended by guests from multiple government entities, including representatives from the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO), Marine and Water Bureau (DSAMA), Sports Bureau (ID), and Melco Resorts & Entertainment.
The Grand Finale brings together 80 racers from 19 countries and regions which, according to yesterday’s statement, features delegations from the Chinese mainland, the Czech Republic, South Korea, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and several other parts of Europe and Asia.
According to the statement, competitors will surf across seven categories, from Elite and Masters to Junior Boys and Junior Girls. Five athletes from the Chinese mainland delegation are participating, including Zhang Maozhu, who won silver at The World Games 2025 in Chengdu.
During yesterday’s opening ceremony, MMSA President Irene Ho Nga Ieng said “the MotoSurf community has continued to grow”, adding that bringing the finale back to Macau “comes with even more buzz and energy thanks to the new Coastal Market.”
Meanwhile, MotoSurf World Championship Director Martin Jančálek noted Macau’s rising importance on the tour, saying it has “quickly become a fan-favourite stop” as Asia “emerges as a growing hub for motosurfing.”
The Coastal Market will remain open throughout the event, with free access for the public. Fans can follow the races live at Hac Sa Beach or through online broadcasts.
The competition runs from today through Sunday, with qualifyers and heats across the weekend, followed by an awards ceremony and flag parade on the final day.
