The “2025 Macau Reading Festival” will be held from Friday to Sunday at the Taipa Houses in Taipa, featuring 20 reading activities and workshops, including the “Book Traveller” shared reading sessions and the parent-child “Portable Specimen Case x Biodiversity in Nature” workshops, according to a statement released by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) yesterday.

The three-day event, themed “A Reading Holiday”, features an outdoor library, an arts and culture book fair, a sky cinema*, a coffee and creative market, cultural performances, and game stalls, apart from incorporating aspects of the 15th National Games and the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities (NGD), with the aim of creating a comprehensive cultural experience that combines reading, art, and leisure, the statement said.

Several themed zones will be on site, such as a raft of cultural performances, aiming to provide an immersive natural reading experience for visitors seeking a tranquil literary escape, the statement said, adding that the Sun Yat-sen Library of Guangdong Province, Shenzhen Library, and others will set up on-site booths to enhance public understanding of the Greater Bay Area’s (GBA) library resources.

The statement added that the stage performance segment will showcase a variety of artistic forms, including Bossa Nova, Portuguese-style busking, shadow puppet story theatre, providing residents with a multi-sensory, therapeutic artistic experience. The “Sky Cinema” will screen film adaptations of literary works in the evenings starting at 8 p.m., such as the Hong Kong classic movie “Rouge” starring Leslie Cheung Kwok Wing (張國榮).

Additionally, 25 stalls of local creative products and coffee will be set up on site, providing stationery, handcrafted goods and others, as well as “Zone-Out Playground,” “Chill Zone” game booths, festival-themed installations, and photo spots with the National Games’ mascots “Xiyangyang” (“Joyful”) and “Lerongrong” (“Happy Harmony”).

A grand lucky draw will also be held, with participants standing a chance to win prizes such as e-readers and keyring digital cameras, the statement added.
