The Public Security Police (PSP) apprehended a local man on Saturday for drunk driving, with his blood alcohol concentration standing at 1.73 grams per litre, PSP spokesman Lei Chan Hong said during a regular press conference yesterday.

Lei identified the suspect as a male surnamed Un who is in his thirties and works as a barista.

According to Lei, the Public Security Police (PSP) received a report from Un early Saturday morning about a traffic accident in Rua de Francisco Xavier Pereira (俾利喇街). Lei noted that a breathalyser test confirmed Un’s blood alcohol concentration at 1.73 grams per litre, indicating a drunk-driving offence.

Through their citywide CCTV surveillance footage, the police confirmed that Un was driving along Avenida do Ouvidor Arriaga (雅廉訪大馬路) at the junction with Avenida do Conselheiro Ferreira de Almeida (荷蘭園大馬路), when he made a wrong turn and drove against the flow of traffic. Un reversed to correct his direction but then collided with a car parked in a metred space when turning from Estrada do Repouso (鏡湖馬路) towards Rua de Francisco Xavier Pereira (俾利喇街).

Under questioning, Un admitted to drinking alcoholic beverages in a restaurant on Rua do Marechal Gomes da Costa (高士德街) before driving. The police contacted the owner of the damaged car, and the total cost of the damage is still to be determined.

Un has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a drunk-driving charge.
