Social Welfare Bureau (IAS) Director Hon Wai noted in a speech during a roundtable conference yesterday that as the government’s social worker registration system has been implemented for several years already, 2,370 social workers have meanwhile obtained professional social worker qualification recognition, with 1,513 holding valid social worker registration certificates.

The one-day “Charting Career Paths, Pursuing Dreams” social worker career development roundtable conference was held at Macau Fisherman’s Wharf in Nape, with the aim of expanding career horizons, strengthening social workers’ professional ability and consolidating the strength of the sector, in order to provide clear development guidelines for social workers, and help them move forward steadily on the career ladder. Over 250 social workers participated in the roundtable conference both online and offline, a IAS statement pointed out.

Hon noted that local government has continued to improve its social worker training system, expand diverse development pathways, and strengthen welfare safeguards to promote the sustained growth of the social work profession and enhance the capacity of social services.

Macau Federation of Social Workers Chairperson Cheong Un Si underscored that the conference focused on three main objectives: First, to enhance social workers’ understanding and exploration of diversified employment directions and expand their career perspectives; second, to elevate professional knowledge, skills, and ethical standards, thereby strengthening service capabilities; third, to foster exchange and collaboration within the industry, solidify professional synergy, and jointly advance the overall development of the field.
