The Macau Special Olympics (MSO) yesterday provided free physical, speech and occupational assessment tests for children on its premises in Areia Preta, Hetzer Siu Yu Hong, the association’s executive director, said. Siu also said he hoped the government will hire more therapist assistants considering the lack of therapists for the disabled in Macau.
It was the fourth time the association has provided the annual tests, Siu said, adding the goal was to raise parents’ awareness of their children’s health. About 110 children aged from three to six took part in yesterday’s tests.Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the tests in Iao Hon Market Park, Siu said it usually took some time for parents to find out that their children are affected by certain disabilities or conditions, such as autism and language delay, adding his association hoped parents who think their children have a certain condition will take them for assessment as soon as possible.
