The Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM) is suggesting that live poultry vendors co-operate with the Nam Yue Supply Market to import freshly slaughtered chilled poultry for retail sales in Macau, IACM President Jose Fonseca Tavares said yesterday, adding that, however, the possible co-operation deal would be a commercial decision in which the government had no say.
Tavares made the remarks on the sidelines of a closed-door meeting with the Food and Economic Safety Authority (ASAE) of Portugal at the IACM headquarters about food testing techniques, personnel training and food safety notifications. The bureau announced on Friday that the government had decided to impose a permanent ban on the import and sale of live poultry in Macau from May 1.
