The University of Macau (UM) announced in a statement on Monday that it will celebrate its 45th anniversary in conjunction with its Open Day this upcoming Sunday, titled “UM Anniversary Open Day”, inviting the public to explore the public university’s latest developments, academic strengths, and campus culture.

According to the statement, the opening ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. at the university’s Lakeside Theatre, followed by the Open Day, which will run until 5 p.m.

As the first higher education institution in Macau to extend its teaching and research activities into the Guangdong–Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, UM will open three locations to the public: the main campus, the Zhuhai UM Science & Technology Research Institute in Hengqin and, for the first time, its Transitional Research and Education Site in Yuxin Tower in Zhuhai, the statement added.

Around 250 activities will take place across the main campus, including admission talks, academic lectures, research showcases, guided tours and interactive games, the statement noted.

Meanwhile, the university’s faculties, research institutes, and residential colleges will organise workshops, science experiments and cultural performances, while quiz games and lucky draws will offer prizes such as headphones and e-readers, said the statement.

Selected activities will also be livestreamed for those unable to attend in person, the statement noted. Moreover, the statement added that restaurants and shops on campus will offer special discounts, and visitors can reach the UM campus by public transport, taxi or private car.

According to the statement, the Open Day aims to provide a comprehensive picture of its teaching, research and community engagement as it marks 45 years of development.
