The Islands Emergency Station of Conde de São Januário General Hospital will be handed over to the Islands Healthcare Complex – Macao Medical Centre of Peking Union Medical College Hospital, colloquially known as “Macao Union Medical Centre” (PUMCH), tomorrow, with emergency services continuing under the existing operational model, according to a statement by the centre on Friday.

According to the statement, PUMCH said it will take over the operation of the Islands Emergency Station after six months of preparation, including staff recruitment, training and system testing, adding that the Emergency Department is now ready to commence operations and will provide 24-hour diagnostic, treatment, imaging, laboratory, and pharmaceutical services.

The statement noted that emergency service fees will continue to follow the current three-tier charging system: Tier 1, covering people already receiving free public specialist medical services, will remain free of charge. Tier 2 applies to local residents, who will be charged 70 percent of the standard fees for consultations, nursing, laboratory tests, imaging and other services. Tier 3 applies to non-local residents, who will be charged 100 percent of the approved emergency service fees. PUMCH expressed gratitude to the Health Bureau (SSM) for its long-term support and to the community for its concern, the statement noted.

The statement said that the handover marks an important step in improving the medical service network in Taipa, Cotai and Coloane, and enhancing the quality of emergency care, adding that the centre will continue to work closely with the bureau to safeguard residents’ health and safety.
