The Cultural Development Fund (CDF) announced in a statement yesterday that its two film subsidy schemes, namely “Macau Elements” and “Subsidy Programme for Cinematographic and Television Filming in Macao”, will be expanded to short-form drama projects, and applications open on Monday.
Applications for the two schemes will be accepted in four rounds throughout the year; the first round runs from Monday to March 31, followed by April 1 to June 30, July 1 to August 31, and September 1 to November 27. There is no quota limit for applications. However, the application period will close early if the total budget is exhausted, according to the statement.
The statement noted that applicants for both film subsidy schemes must be firms legally established and operating in Macau, the funding of which is provided in the form of a subsidy.
Subsidy programme for film in Macau expands to short-form drama
Regarding the “Subsidy Programme for Cinematographic and Television Filming in Macao” scheme, applicants must serve as the Macau production unit for non-local film/TV projects, the statement said, adding that for this year, applications are newly accepted for short-form drama projects that conduct on-location filming in Macau and the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin.
The total budget for the scheme is 30 million patacas, with five million patacas allocated specifically for short-form dramas. The maximum subsidy is 30 percent to 40 percent of the project’s film budget. Projects must not have commenced filming or on-location work in Macau or in Hengqin before their application is formally submitted, the statement said.
‘Macao Elements’ scheme features Macau-Hengqin elements
Regarding the “Macao Elements” scheme, applicants must be the copyright holder or an authorised promotion and distribution agent, the statement said, adding that the scheme’s scope will be expanded to include the overseas promotion of short-form dramas featuring Macau-Hengqin elements, as well as Chinese mainland films that have obtained a public screening permit for promotion and distribution in Portuguese-speaking countries from the China Film Administration (CFA).
The total budget for the “Macao Elements” scheme is five million patacas, with 1.5 million patacas allocated specifically for short-form dramas featuring Macau-Hengqin elements. The maximum subsidy is 60 to 80 percent of the promotion and distribution budget expenditure; all applications must be completed with audiovisuals ready for screening, the statement added.
