A delegation from the Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT) visited Beijing between last Monday and Wednesday, securing national-level support for the debut of two international science and technology conferences in Macau in the second half of this year, according to a statement by the fund last week.
During the visit, the FDCT delegation held working meetings with the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), as well as several key national science and technology institutions, the statement said.
The delegation introduced FDCT’s priorities for the year and exchanged views on future collaboration, reaching a consensus on a number of cooperative initiatives, the statement noted, adding that it was led by FDCT President Vincent U U Sang, together with the fund’s Administrative Committee member Ip Kuai Lam.
They met with Sun Jian, deputy director of the ministry’s Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs; Lan Yujie, vice president of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC); Zhou Min, vice president of the State Information Centre (SIC); Liu Weidong, director-general of the Bureau of International Cooperation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS); and Zhang Bin, deputy director and acting director of the Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs of the China Association for Science and Technology.
According to the statement, the meetings focused on exchanging information about major projects and work plans for the current year. The relevant national institutions confirmed their support for holding two international sci-tech conferences in Macau for the first time, with a focus on cutting-edge scientific development and technological talent exchange, the statement said.
In addition, the delegation discussed a range of cooperation initiatives with the institutions, including strengthening the development of national sci-tech research and development platforms in Macau, encouraging local researchers to participate in major national sci-tech projects, and promoting international sci-tech collaboration, as the statement noted.
These proposals received strong backing, the statement said, adding that cooperation plans and work arrangements for 2026 were finalised during the visit.
The statement noted that the fund will further leverage Macau’s international advantages to strengthen the joint organisation of frontier forums* and international conferences, with the aim of supporting Macau’s role in contributing to the nation’s broader goal of becoming a sci-tech powerhouse.
