The Macao Chinese Orchestra has conducted a series of concerts for kindergarten pupils, according to a statement from the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) on Monday.

As part of the orchestra’s 2025–26 concert season under the banner “Planting Musical Seeds”, the programme was held across 16 kindergartens between October last year and February this year, the statement said. It was attended by nearly 2,500 kids.

According to the statement, the performances centred on a story featuring the mythological figure Na Tcha, designed to introduce the four main sections of a Chinese orchestra. Musicians performed a mix of well-known children’s tunes and traditional Chinese pieces, such as “The Horse Race” and included interactive segments where the children could try playing the instruments, the statement noted.

The concerts were staged at multiple schools including Escola Oficial de Seac Pai Van, Macau Baptist College, Keang Peng School, and St. Anthony’s Kindergarten & Nursery, among others, the statement noted. After the performances, the children were given colouring sheets featuring Chinese instruments.

The programme was organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau and coordinated by the Macao Orchestra Company. It aims to foster an early appreciation of traditional music, the statement added. Schools interested in hosting similar events are invited to contact the Macao Chinese Orchestra directly.
