SJM to present ‘Classics on Strings’ with Macao Orchestra, int’l virtuosos

The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), Macao Orchestra Company, Limited and SJM Resorts, S.A. will jointly present the concert “Classics on Strings” on March 14 at the Macau Cultural Centre’s (CCM) Grand Auditorium in Nape, featuring the Macao Orchestra (OM) under the baton of Lithuanian violinist Julian Rachlin, according to a statement by the bureau on Friday.

Scheduled for 8 p.m., the concert will showcase a programme of celebrated string pieces, including Beethoven’s Coriolan Overture, Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante in E-flat Major, and Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 3 in A Minor “Scottish”. 

Rachlin, according to the statement, is an internationally acclaimed violinist and violist based in Vienna, who will serve as conductor for the evening. Over a career spanning more than three decades, Rachlin has collaborated with numerous leading orchestras and conductors worldwide, the statement added. 

He has appeared with prestigious ensembles and currently serves as Principal Guest Conductor of the Royal Northern Sinfonia in the UK, the statement said.

Joining him on stage will be Canadian violinist and violist Sarah McElravy, the statement added. Known for her refined technique and expressive performances, according to the statement, McElravy has performed extensively across Asia, Europe and the US. 

The concert will run for approximately one hour and 30 minutes, including an interval, the statement noted. Tickets are priced at 150, 200, 250 and 300 patacas, and are available through the Macau Ticketing Website (www.macauticket.com).
