The Public Security Police (PSP) announced in a statement on Tuesday that it has updated its traffic accident blackspot online map’s data to cover the entirety of last year, adding that Avenida do Dr. Rodrigo Rodrigues (羅理基博士大馬路) in Zape was the location with the highest number of traffic accidents.
The map integrates traffic accident data and locations with particularly high frequencies of accidents, aiming to easily enable the public to access traffic accident information, thereby raising awareness of traffic safety.
Last year, the traffic police recorded 14,638 traffic accidents, four of them fatal, compared to 15,510 traffic accidents with seven fatalities in 2024, according to official police statistics.
The road with the highest number of accidents was Avenida do Dr. Rodrigo Rodrigues, with 356 incidents. This was followed by the Friendship Bridge (友誼大橋) with 295 accidents. Estrada do Istmo (路氹連貫公路) had 258 accidents, Avenida da Amizade (友誼大馬路) recorded 256, and Avenida Wai Long (偉龍馬路) registered 243 accidents.
Based on the official data, the daily average reached 40.1 traffic accidents last year.
Compared to 2024, the total number of traffic accidents recorded last year decreased by 872 cases, according to the statement, adding that the top five causes of traffic accidents were: failure to maintain a safe distance (3,087 cases), failure to control speed (2,024 cases), careless turning (1,692 cases), failure to give way (1,285 cases), and careless reversing (1,091 cases).
