Integrated resort operator Sands China will be showcasing the selected works of three outstanding emerging Macau artists through a Sands Gallery booth slated to be set up at the international art event Art Central in Hong Kong for the special administrative region’s art month.
In a statement yesterday, the company noted that it was “the first integrated tourism and leisure enterprise from Macau invited as an Associate Partner” of the event, which was had its first edition in 2015 and will take place at the Central Harbourfront from March 25-29.
Over the five-day period, Sands China’s booth will showcase the works and distinctive art styles of Macau artists Lei Ieng Wai, Leong Chi Mou, and Dor Lio Hak Man. The three artists are described in the statement as being “rising forces within the Macau Artist Society, whose creativity, craftsmanship, and conceptual approaches demonstrate international vision and professional standards”. The statement added that the trio have started building a reputation in Macau and abroad.
Describing the three artists’ styles, the statement said that Lei focuses on optical exploration with structured colour fields and geometric compositions that reflect life’s urban rhythms; Leong uses gilding to create textured surfaces that evoke Macau’s memory and landscape; and Lio combines delicate painting with urban life themes that “resonate deeply with audiences”.
“Through Art Central, the company aims to promote young Macau artists onto major international art stage, demonstrating the vitality of Macau’s new generation of contemporary artists, highlighting Macau’s attributes through artistic lens, and further advancing the city’s cultural talent development”, according to the statement.
Moreover, the statement added that the company’s presence at Art Central through Sands Gallery “represents significant recognition from the international art community and further reinforces its role as an international cultural portal for Macau”.
