The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) announced in a statement yesterday that it has launched an update of its “database of pre-packed food products”, calling on the food sector to participate in the information collection exercise.
According to the statement, the update aims to gather information on pre-packed food products supplied and sold in Macau, covering food retailers, supermarket chains and other businesses. The statement added that members of the sector can submit relevant information through the “food safety alert platform” between this coming Monday and April 17.
Under the Food Safety Law, businesses are required to promptly recall products that may pose safety risks, the bureau said. According to the statement, the bureau conducts database updates in the first and third quarters of each year to support risk assessment and improve response efficiency during food safety incidents, noting that the system enables authorities to quickly identify affected products in the local market and issue alerts via email and SMS, allowing businesses to remove items from shelves and initiate recalls without delay.
The bureau said the collected information will be used solely for food safety purposes, urging cooperation from the sector to strengthen Macau’s ability to prevent and manage food safety risks.
