The 14th Macao International Travel (Industry) Expo (MITE) will open next Friday, April 10, at The Venetian Macao’s Cotai Expo, featuring around 1,500 booths and a range of promotional offers to boost tourism spending, according to a statement by the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) yesterday.

The three-day event will run until April 12 under the theme “Global Convergence, Future Horizons”, aiming to bring together global tourism resources and industry players to explore new opportunities in “tourism +”, the statement said.

The expo will span 30,000 square metres across Halls A, B and C, attracting over 700 exhibitors and more than 600 hosted buyers from home and abroad, the statement said, adding that more than 130 activities, including destination presentations, industry forums, workshops and performances, will be held throughout the event.

Alex Lao Nga Fong, president of the Macau Travel Agency Association, pointed out at a recent press conference that the expo is Macau’s largest international travel fair and a key platform supporting the city’s role as a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure, the statement noted.

“MITE has become one of the most iconic events that embodies the positioning of Macau’s development into a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure endorsed by the Central People’s Government,” Lao said, adding that the event draws over 10,000 exhibitors, buyers and visitors annually, generating more than 10 million online impressions, while strengthening connections between Macau, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) and international markets, the statement underlined.

In order to stimulate spending, exhibitors will offer time-limited deals on travel-related products, including hotel stays, tour packages and air tickets, the statement said, adding that visitors who spend 300 patacas or more during the event can enter the “MAK MAK grand lucky draw” for a chance to win prizes.

In addition, instant discount vouchers will be available through Luso International Banking Ltd. via its WeChat mini-programme. The vouchers offer a 100-pataca discount for purchases of 1,000 patacas or above at participating exhibitors, the statement said, noting that the expo will be open to the public with free admission across all three days, alongside shuttle bus services and free parking, as organisers aim to attract visitors and further boost Macau’s tourism sector.
