Gongbei Customs announced on Wednesday that officers at the Hengqin checkpoint seized about 19 kilograms of silver granules from a woman feigning pregnancy.
The incident occurred on March 13, when customs officers inspecting vehicles in the arrival lane noticed a female driver who appeared unusually nervous. Officers noted that the woman’s physical proportions seemed “disproportionate”, prompting a secondary inspection.
Upon further investigation, officers discovered 16 packages of silver granules strapped to the woman’s abdomen to simulate a pregnancy. The haul weighed a total of 19.206 kg.*
In a formal statement, Gongbei Customs reminded the public that concealing goods to evade duties constitutes smuggling. Under mainland regulations, individuals found guilty of such acts face strict penalties, and serious cases will result in criminal prosecution.
