Macau recorded 11.2 million visitor arrivals in the first quarter of this year, a year-on-year increase of 13.7 percent, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced today.
The daily average of visitor arrivals in the first three months stood at 124,598.
Same-day visitors (7.0 million) and overnight visitors (4.2 million) rose by 20.3 percent and 4.1 percent respectively.
The average length of stay for overnight visitors remained unchanged year-on-year at 2.2 days, or 52 hours and 48 minutes.
Visitors from the Chinese mainland rose by 16.4 percent to 8.39 million, accounting for 74.9 percent of the total number of visitors. Visitors from Hong Kong increased by 1.8 percent to 1.78 million. Visitors from China’s Taiwan region grew by 29.1 percent to 285,464.
Foreign visitors increased by 10.7 percent to 755,756, accounting for 6.7 percent of the total number of visitor arrivals. South Korea (184,938) and the Philippines (131,749) continued to be Macau’s main foreign visitor source markets.
In March, the number of visitor arrivals rose by 10.6 percent to 3.39 million.
At the end of last year, according to the latest available official demographic data, Macau’s population stood at 688,900.
Meanwhile, the bureau also announced today that residents’ unemployment rate in the first quarter amounted to 2.1 percent, while the inflation rate stood at 0.92 percent year-on-year.
