The Macau Customs Service announced in a statement on Saturday that its officers seized 51 kg of cooked food at Hengqin border checkpoint last Wednesday.
Customs identified the smuggler as a 35-year-old local man. The statement also said that he admitted to attempting to smuggle the non-quarantined food into Macau.
According to the statement, customs officers at the checkpoint’s entry vehicle lane intercepted a car, based on an alert from the cross-border Risk Management System. A follow-up inspection unearthed 51 kg of cooked food concealed in lunch boxes, hidden in the boot.
The statement also said that the case was suspected of violating relevant provisions of the Sanitary and Phytosanitary Control Regulation, adding that the case involving non-quarantined cooked food has transferred to the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) for follow up.
