A total of 24,000 patacas was raised through the “Albergue SCM Wishing Well and Love Tree 2026” during its run from January 26 to March 22 at Albergue SCM*, with the amount recently donated to three cancer patients undergoing treatment.
The announcement was made by CAC – Círculo dos Amigos da Cultura de Macau (“Circle of the Friends of Macau’s Culture”) in a statement on Saturday, adding that each patient, through the referral and coordination of Caritas Macau, received 8,000 patacas. Caritas Macau Secretary-General Paul Pun Chi Meng and CAC representatives presented the amount to two beneficiaries, while the third received their donation as arranged from Caritas Macau on CAC’s behalf, the statement added.
The statement said that CAC has held the wishing well for charity organisations and the disadvantaged since 2015, inviting visitors to make a wish and drop a coin into the well and donation box to make their Chinese New Year Wishes.
“CAC once again thanks the visitors who contribute to this charitable event. Although this may be only a small financial aid when treating cancer, it is still an important and meaningful act”, promising to continue the event and support those in need, CAC pointed out in the statement.
*Albergue is Portuguese for “hospice”. SCM stands for Santa Casa da Misericórdia (“Holy House of Mercy”), Macau’s oldest charitable organisation.
