Average daily number up 10 pct from 2019 level
Macau recorded some 873,000 visitor arrivals during the Chinese mainland’s five-day Labour Day holiday period, which started on Friday last week and ended this Tuesday, or a daily average of nearly 175,000, an increase of 2.7 percent from last year’s corresponding period, the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) announced in a statement last night.
Last year’s Labour Day holiday also lasted five days.
The statement noted that the average daily number of nearly 175,000 visitor arrivals recorded during this year’s Labour Day holiday period represented an increase of 10.4 percent from the average daily number recorded during the Labour Day holiday period in pre-pandemic 2019.
In 2019, the Labour Day holiday period lasted four days.
The statement also noted that Macau recorded around 248,000 visitor arrivals on Saturday last week, the second day of this year’s five-day Labour Day holiday period, once again setting a new record of single-day number of visitor arrivals.
The previous record of single-day number of visitor arrivals was set on February 19 this year, the third day of the Chinese New Year of the Horse, when 227,917 visitor arrivals were recorded.
According to last night’s statement, the about 873,000 visitor arrivals recorded during this year’s Labour Day holiday comprised around 725,000 from the Chinese mainland, 94,000 from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), 12,000 from China’s Taiwan region, and 42,000 foreign visitors.
The statement said that the number of visitor arrivals from the Chinese mainland recorded during this year’s five-day Labour Day holiday period represented an increase of 6.9 percent from last year’s corresponding period.
Meanwhile, last night’s MGTO statement also said that the average occupancy rate of hotel guestrooms reached 92.7 percent during this year’s Labour Day holiday period, a level “similar” to last year’s corresponding period.
The occupancy rate stood at 98.3 percent on Saturday, the highest during the five-day period, the statement said.
According to daily immigration statistics released by the Public Security Police (PSP) during the period, Macau recorded 203,006 visitor arrivals on the first day of this year’s five-day Labour Day holiday period, 247,729 on the second day, 182,216 on the third day, 157,214 on the fourth day, and 83,064 on the last day. Consequently, Macau recorded a total of 873,229 visitor arrivals during the five-day period, according to the PSP data.
