The Health Bureau (SSM), in collaboration with the Macau General Union of Neighbourhood Associations (UGAMM), widely known as Kai Fong, has established the first “community clinic” at the UGAMM integrated treatment centre in Edifício do Bairro da Ilha Verde (青洲坊) in the northern district. The clinic officially begins operations today, providing residents with free diagnostic and treatment services for common acute illnesses, according to a SSM statement yesterday.

According to the statement, the clinic operates from Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., providing free care for common acute conditions such as colds and gastroenteritis, with the aim of facilitating residents’ access to community medical services, effectively diverting non-scheduled outpatient services from the Health Bureau’s Fai Chi Kei and Ilha Verde health centres, and further improving the accessibility of community healthcare and the overall patient experience.

Based on clinical assessment, the clinic’s physicians prescribe medications uniformly provided by the Health Bureau. All consultation and prescription records will be fully digitised and uploaded to the Macau electronic health record platform (eHR) on the “Macao One Account” app, ensuring greater transparency, convenience, and traceability, the statement said.

The statement pointed out that in 2025, the total number of non-scheduled outpatient visits at Macau’s health centres exceeded 250,000.

As the demand for acute medical services among residents continues to rise, the establishment of Macau’s first community clinic offers a more convenient option for community-based acute care, thereby acting as a diversion mechanism, which allows health centres to focus more on preventive care and chronic disease management, working alongside private medical providers to enhance the accessibility of community healthcare and improve residents’ medical experience, the statement added.

The Health Bureau will closely monitor the operation of the community clinic and evaluate its effectiveness over time, aiming to lay the groundwork for potential expansion to other non-profit medical institutions in the future, the statement added.
