The 17th Chinese Children’s Film Dubbing Contest (Macau section) is scheduled to be held on July 25, and a raft of training activities for the contest was officially launched on Saturday.

The contest is organised by the China National Film Museum in conjunction with the China Film Association and China Children’s Film Association (CCFA), while the Macau section is undertaken by the Macau Parent-Child Toastmasters Club.

The club held the training activities at the headquarters of 369 Cooperation Town Entrepreneurial Youth Association on Avenida do Almirante Lacerda.

Shelly Cai (蔡依瑩), president of the club, said in her speech that dubbing training is one of the key projects of the year, encompassing a variety of formats including workshops, contests, and summer activities, which will be rolled out progressively from June to August.

She expressed hope that through professional guidance and stage experience, children will find the courage to speak up and express themselves confidently, and come to appreciate the charm of the art of the spoken word in a fun and educational environment.

According to the club’s statement released yesterday, Saturday’s activity’s topic was “Language Standards and Emotional Expression” and featured as its speaker Jacky Li Chun Kit, a founding member and executive director of Macau’s Theatre Farmers.

Through thematic explanations and live demonstrations, he guided participants in mastering dubbing techniques and emotional control, the statement said.

Li pointed out that excellent dubbing requires not only clear enunciation and accurate intonation, but also emotional commitment and an understanding of the character. Only by combining linguistic standards with genuine emotion can one make one’s voice truly compelling and persuasive, Li said.
