The one-day “13th Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Power Industry Summit”, kicked off yesterday at Galaxy Macau in Cotai, themed “Artificial Intelligence and High-Quality Energy Development”, with the aim of contributing wisdom and strengthening to the energy transition and intelligent development of the Greater Bay Area (GBA), according to a statement released by local power utility CEM.

CEM Chairman Fu Jianguo noted in a speech during yesterday’s summit that from initial traditional power cooperation to low-carbon green transformation, and now to the integrated development of artificial intelligence (AI) and energy, the summit has consistently dedicated itself to jointly exploring frontier topics in the power industry, the statement said.

Fu added that this year marks the launch of the nation’s 15th Five-Year Plan, with “energy powerhouse” written into a national five-year plan for the first time, charting a new blueprint for the high-quality development of China’s energy sector, the statement added.

According to a online report by Chinese language Macao Daily News yesterday, China Southern Power Grid (CSG) Chairman Qian Zhaoyang noted that the Greater Bay Area, situated at the forefront of global innovation and benefiting from the unique advantages of “One Country, Two Systems,” is the ideal “server” for pioneering AI-powered development. Qian said he hopes that the participants will make full use of the summit platform to jointly advance AI and high-quality energy development.

Qian put forward three proposals, including strengthening the foundational support of energy for AI development; amplifying the multiplier effect of AI on energy transformation; and revitalising the industrial ecosystem and promoting two-way empowerment between AI and energy development.

China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN) General Manager Pang Songtao noted that CGN as a key power enterprise in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau region, should seize the strategic opportunities presented by AI development. He called for deeper opening of energy application scenarios, breakthroughs in core technologies, efficient coordination between computing power and electricity, and active cultivation of a new landscape featuring co-construction of ecosystems, resource sharing and value co-creation.
