The various translucent crystal-like creations by Shenzhen-based Wu Daijie Art Studio are being displayed at GalaxyArt of the Galaxy Macau integrated resort in Cotai, with over 60 pieces from animals to unique furniture to Taihu stone-inspired pieces on show until September 13.
The Dazzling Galaxy – Crystalline Art Exhibition opened last week* and comprises signature works by the studio, alongside new pieces, altogether using translucent materials to create the artworks.
Stepping into the contemporary art space, visitors will find the resulting pieces displayed across four sections, with the exhibition altogether blending “the richness of Eastern cultural heritage by conceptualising themes from nature”, according to a recent statement by the integrated resort operator, with the various pieces presented with layered meanings.
According to both the recent statement and the Galaxy Macau website, “Luminosity. The Spirit of Nature” features pieces that depict the seemingly crystalised forms of living beings in nature, while “Luminosity · The Glow of Modernity” utilises clean lines, light and shadows.
Moreover, “Luminosity – Beyond Void & Form” integrates both classic and modern aesthetics in reinterpreting Zen. According to the statement, its highlights include the four-piece “Ethereal Stone” and “Timeless Dialogue: Taihu Stone”, which both centre on the beauty of Taihu stones, a kind of limestone produced at the foot of Dongting Mountain in Suzhou in Jiangsu Province. These pieces are inspired by the classic anecdote of early Song Dynasty painter, poet, calligrapher and art theorist Mi Fu (1051–1107) addressing a scholar’s rock, the statement said.
The last of the sections, “Luminosity - Flowing like water”, meanwhile captures the state of water as it flows, with the piece “Ethereal Flow” that features an aerial installation, being a highlight. The statement said that the piece pulls from a passage from Laozi’s Chinese classic text “Tao Te Ching”, namely: “The highest goodness is like water; water benefits all things without contention, embodying the virtue of humility”.
One can visit the exhibition daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
