The Macau Government Information Bureau (GCS) yesterday announced the schedule for the upcoming 13th APEC Tourism Ministerial Meeting, which will be held in Macau between today and Sunday.
The meeting’s opening ceremony will be held on Saturday morning.
After the Foreign Ministry in Beijing announced in December last year that the 33rd Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting will be held in Shenzhen on November 18 and 19, 2026, the Macau government announced at that time that according to the central government’s arrangements, the APEC Tourism Ministerial Meeting will be held in Macau in June 2026.
It will be the third time that China hosts the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting, after Shanghai in 2001 and Beijing in 2014.
Before the 22nd APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting was held in Beijing in November 2014, the APEC Tourism Ministerial Meeting was held in Macau in September that year.
It will be the second time that Macau hosts the APEC Tourism Ministerial Meeting, since it last hosted the event in 2014.
The Macau government announced last month that the 13th APEC Tourism Ministerial Meeting will be held in Macau between June 24 and 28.
The upcoming 13th APEC Tourism Ministerial Meeting will also include the 67th APEC Tourism Working Group Meeting.
Yesterday’s statement said that the APEC Tourism Working Group Meeting will be held today and tomorrow, adding that all arrangements for the event, including event venues, reception procedures, and security measures, are now fully in place.
The statement said that following the Working Group Meeting, the 13th APEC Tourism Ministerial Meeting will be held on Saturday at the Services Platform Complex for Commercial and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (aka Forum Macao Complex) in Sai Van, where its opening ceremony will be held in the morning, while a press conference about the meeting’s outcomes will be held in the afternoon.
The statement also said that the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) government and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism will jointly host a welcome dinner on Friday to greet the high-level delegates attending the meetings.
The welcome dinner will be held at the Macau Tower Convention and Entertainment Centre.
The statement said that Macau – as a “guest economy” under the designation “Macao, China” – will take part in the 67th APEC Tourism Working Group Meeting, during which Macau will give a presentation to representatives from APEC’s member economies providing an overview of the current situation and future direction of its tourism industry. Macau’s participation in the APEC Tourism Working Group Meeting aims to enhance its engagement and influence within this key international forum the statement said.
Unlike Hong Kong, Macau is not an APEC member economy.
